Plache could be next candidate to announce

Kim Plache is a well-known community leader in Racine, as she is the former state senator turned community activist. Since leaving the state legislature in 2002, Kim has maintained a high profile by serving on community boards and working to help support local candidates. Kim is currently a Steering Committee Member for the Women's Progressive Network of Racine, where she was part of a group that helped recruit 11 candidates to run for office in 2008.

Kim represents the key seat to flip the Racine School Board to a progressive majority, as we added three candidates in 2008. Kim will have the ability to draw on a large base of supporters from her years of public service and will add a strong progressive voice to the Racine School Board.

But hold it! On Saturday Plache told Ken Lumpkin, publisher of the Insider News, in an informal conversation at Racine Interfaith Coalition Love Justic Breakfast, that she has not yet ruled out the possibility of being a mayoral candidate in the upcoming April primary election. "What's the possibility in percentages that you will be a mayoral candidate," asked Lumpkin. "The percentage possibility is very high," responded Plache.

If Plache adds her name to the growing list of candidates, she will raise the list to 10 candidates who want to replace former Racine Mayor Gary Becker. If she decides to run, she will be the third female seeking the top city post. On last night, Saturday, February 14, Lesia Hill-Driver, the director of the Dr. John Bryant Center, said that she was in the race for the long haul. This ends rumors around the blogs that she had never filed papers with the city declaring her candidacy. Also Jody Harding, an active member of the Taxpayers Association, declarded her candidacy long before the former mayor's scandal.

Kim works for WHEDA - the state agency that funds the developments like the one in West Racine - that you were against.

So, will Kim Plache and Lesia Hill-Driver be taking leaves of absence from their paid government jobs to eliminate any concern about conflice-of-interest between their paycheck and their campaign?

If they are serious candidates, then they owe this to the voters!

You would have to ask Kim that. I am still dancing!
