Marie Oliver is a local real-state expert

Marie Oliver, owner of Oliver’s Realty, for the past 20 years has found her special nitch in selling real estate.

Marie was recruited and trained in the late ’80’s by Bill Gowins, then owner of Ebony Realty. Gowins was the first African-American Realtor and along with Oliver, several other African-American employees blazed the trail in an area where minorities had not set foot in Racine.

But for Oliver, her entrepreneurial spirit had long been developed. “I credit my father for me wanting to go in business,” she explained. Her father, who dropped out of school in the sixth grade, was a World War II veteran. He returned home to be trained as a radio and TV repairman, and later opened up his own shop. “He always told his children to go to school so you can work for yourself.”

Marie heeded his advice and today is more than just a Realtor, she makes a special effort to help others avoid the pitfalls that lead so many investors into foreclosures. “There are too many predatory lenders out there, and buyers need to know someone who is working for their best interests,” she explained. “Home ownership is one of the biggest investments that a family will make.” She says seeking the support of an honest realtor is very important before purchasing a home.

Marie Oliver is civic minded and active in her church and community. She is a member of Second Baptist Financial Team, and Community Women’s Club. Among her many interests and talents, Marie is also an exceptional seamstress and Public Accountant.
