UPDATE: COMMUNITY ORGANIZERS AND RESIDENTS WILL GATHER AT CITY HALL TO SEEK ANSWERS REGARDING PLANS FOR STIMULUS FUNDING

About 150 local community organizers and neighborhood residents gather at the Racine City Hall on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 6:45 p.m. to seek answers from Mayor Thomas Friedel, The Department of City Development and other related city hall officials on plans for addressing community issues with the stimulus funding.

The City of Racine has been promised by the Department of Housing and Urban Development $1.351 Million-$817,000 slated for homeless prevention and $534,000 in community development block grant cash for various local needs.

The Mayors Office has not announced plans or any intentions to meet with community organizers or neighborhood residents to assess the priority of needs. Lack of jobs, affordable housing projects, transportation issues and programs for at-risk youth are among the issues that community organizers and neighborhood residents will seek answers from the City Hall Officials regarding usage with stimulus funding.

Mayoral Candidate Robert Turner and the 1st District Aldermanic Candidate Keith Fair were in attendance and express concerns of the community at-large and request a full disclosure of the distribution of stimulus funding.

Why doesn't Keith Fair ask Bob Turner about the stimulus funds. The stimulus funds are coming through Madison and last I checked, Bob Turner was a state representative and he belongd to the same party as the governor. Oh wait, this is a ploy to grand stand in front of the voters but the egg will be on you Turner.

And the sharks have started the feeding frenzy.
Thought myself that Bob Tuner had better taste then hang around Keith Fair.

Oh and all you had to do to find out this info is call and ask like I did, public information

Perhaps if Mr. Turner had showed up on time to the department briefing meeting at City Hall yesterday and had stayed for more than an hour, he would know the answers to these questions.

But if Turner would have done that he could not show up a City Hall and Grand Stand. I am very bothered that Rep. Turner would soil himself with the likes of Keith Fair

Bob Turner seems to be a nice guy, but I don't know how he would be able to physically split his time between state and local leadership roles (even for a short time) and still remain effective. Even Tom Friedel took a leave of absence from his job to take on the role of interim mayor.

Bob Turner should be coming to tell the city about stimulus funds. They are coming from the state. This guy is too much.

This is typical Bob Turner - do nothing and then come in for some press exposure. He doesn't even know where this money is going or where it's coming from. HE should have been the one bringing it to us. Turner couldn't lead us out of a wet paper bag.
